10 Sustainable Swaps for Your Bathroom and Laundry Room

Earth Day Sustainable Bathroom + Laundry Swaps

Composed Living is always focused on sustainable swaps for your home and life, but during April, we focus even more because of Earth month. Our first sustainable push for this month is all about how to easily swap out items you use daily in your bathroom and laundry room!

Not only is it better for the planet, but a lot of these actually save you money too! Win, win!

7 Sustainable Swaps for Your Bathroom

  • Add a compost bin to your bathroom! Tissue paper, cotton face rounds, the ends of a bar of soap, the hair from your brush, bamboo cotton swaps - these can all be composted!

  • Swap your traditional cotton swabs for a 100% biodegradable option like these

  • Try reusable, washable cotton rounds for removing makeup, rather than the disposable kind. When they're dirty just pop them in the washing machine! I love these black ones that won't be stained by your mascara on the first use. They also come with a bag to put them in for the washing machine - just so they don’t get lost!

  • Make your own air freshener! Rather than buying Febreze in bulk (and tossing out all those canisters!), just add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to a glass spray jar, fill with water, and voila!

  • Buy bar soap without packaging from your grocery store, or try the body wash from Public Goods (it comes in a compostable bottle made from sugar cane, and the scent is amazing)

  • Buy organic cotton feminine products, such as Rael, L., or Cora. Better for your bod, better for the planet.

  • Switch to bamboo toilet paper. I'm obsessed with Who Gives a Crap (they're packaging is so cute), and it's really soft and durable.

3 Sustainable Swaps for Your Laundry Room

  • Use wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. They help clothes to dry faster and prevent static cling. This 6 pack is only $11, so not only is it more sustainable, but will save you money quickly!

  • Consider switching your towels to a lightweight, quick dry version. Coyuchi's Air Towels are designed to dry quickly, saving a bunch of energy in the dryer cycle. Again, a money saver AND sustainable. No brainer!

  • Use biodegradable laundry soap, such as The Green Laundress (bonus points for supporting small businesses!) or soap nuts (seen below)!
