Tips for Sprucing Up Your Outdoors
Tips for Sprucing Up Your Outdoors
Time for Spring means time for a refresh. I am always looking forward to an opportunity to upgrade my spaces. As the temperature rises and you’re spending more time outside, create an extension of your home. Whether it’s a small spot to have your morning coffee or a place to gather with friends, your outdoor space is equally important in making your home feel whole and a haven to come back to. Surround yourself with greenery, a nice place to relax, and the warm spring air and you’ll be feeling good!
Plant New Veggies for your Spring Garden:
Some of the best crops to grow this month are: squash, all beans, lettuce, melons, radishes, eggplant, beets, spinach, cucumbers, and corn. Check out Joseph Treve’s gardening to do list for the month of April in Los Angeles to take amazing care of your garden! Make sure you’re planting your seeds in a place that isn’t getting too much sun. You want to make sure your plants are getting sun for a few hours a day! Adding compost to your soil is the best way to make sure your soil stays healthy.
Not a veggie, but try adding some lavender to your garden. It’s my fave and many types are drought tolerant!
Add New Plants
Succulents are super cute and very low maintenance as they don’t need much water. Add some bougainvillea to add some color. These are great to add to a hanging pot. CB2 has some incredibly cute planters (that are super affordable!!) such as this one or this one. Also, try this organic potting mix from The Sill!
Outdoor Storage and Furniture
Outdoor furniture can get very expensive, so you’ve gotta make sure you love what you buy! I personally, LOVE a day bed. I purchased this one from Living Spaces for my patio, and am so happy. It’s incredibly comfy and you can keep it as a day bed or turn it into a sectional, so it’s great for hosting. We just got a projector, so we’re excited for some outdoor movie nights while we relax on our outdoor furniture! Also, Homesquare has some good options for outdoor coffee tables.
If hosting is one of your passions, as it is one of mine, outdoor storage that doubles as a bar area is a must. Right now I’m loving these options from Overstock: a wicker bar cart and and acacia wood bar table.
Outdoor Rug
I gotta say, rugs can be sooo hard. There are so many different styles, and finding an affordable one that everyone in your home can agree on can be a definite struggle. But, there is hope! I found some great options for outdoor rugs on Rugs.com, Overstock, and Boutique Rugs. They have all different sizes and styles and the price ranges are arguably lower than other sites. If you’re in LA, check out Tom’s Rugs in Santa Monica. Their rugs are gorgeous, antique, and they’ve got a huge selection, many of which would be great for outdoors.
Lighting
What better way to add a little *mood lighting* than by putting some twinkly lights or lanterns in your outdoor space. These from Article and Overstock are super cute, but for a very sustainable option, check out the solar powered lanterns from Ballard Designs. Solar powered string lights are another great sustainable option.
