How to Organize your Digital Space

If you have an unorganized workplace, especially when working from home, it can hinder your productivity. Whenever we think of messy workplaces, most of the time digital clutter doesn't come to mind. But having devices filled with files, emails and apps can not only impact your work but also put your personal information at risk. 

Digital clutter is the disorganization of your data and files in your digital devices, a full computer storage, unread emails, and a crowded desktop, can slow down your devices and also slow you and your productivity down.

If you want to achieve digital minimalism, increase productivity, and create a sustainable living lifestyle, here’s our home organization how to deal with digital clutter: 

Declutter your desktop

With many devices having a lot of storage it can be easy to start accumulating files in your desktop and lose track of the amount of stuff you have. In order to declutter your desktop, remove any apps or files you don't need anymore, then create folders such as documents, work, photos, and assign all the desktop files into a designated spot. You can also download organization apps to help you with that.

Purge your phone

Your phone is great for keeping memories, using it for work, and communicating with friends and family, so it can be easy to start accumulating unused photos and messages. Purge your phone by freeing up storage space, start by going through your list of apps and deleting the ones you no longer need. Then, backup your photos and delete any that are taking up space. 

Organize your email

It's very common to keep our inboxes full of unread and spam emails, but it can make you miss important emails, and slow down your productivity. Create an email account dedicated to messages you might want to see but that you don't need to reply or check often, to help reduce clutter. Categorizing emails by adding labels, such as “follow up” and “urgent” can be a good way to keep track of important emails that need to be addressed. 

If you want to increase your productivity and be more safe, decluttering your digital space is very important, however, keeping it organized can be a struggle. To stay on top of your new minimalistic workplace, schedule monthly digital decluttering sections and delete any unused apps and files on a regular basis.
