Reflect and Reset for 2023

As this year rapidly comes to a close it is important to pause and reflect on all that you have accomplished, all the lessons learned and the memories collected. I have noticed that the years I spend just one hour intentionally reflecting on, lead me towards a year of immense growth and opportunities. The intentional life is one worth living. Join us in this reflective journaling process to make the most of your 2022 lessons for a powerful 2023.

Step One. Set a time to do this in the next two weeks and set it as an appointment (that you can’t miss) for one hour in your calendar. You may also want to invite your partner, roommates or close friends to join in with you. Ask them to bring their journal/notebook or paper to use for the reflection.

Step Two. Set the tone. Light some candles, dim the lights and light responsibly sourced sage to ground the energy. Play some thoughtful music on Spotify or whatever music app you enjoy.

Step Three. Once everyone has arrived and gotten settled, play a guided meditation to set the tone. I enjoy this one on Insight Timer.

Step 4. Reflect on the past year with any of these questions. Set a clock or timer for 20-30 minutes, give yourselves plenty of time to free-write. Even when you feel like you have nothing left to say, ask yourself “What else?”

  • What are the accomplishments, successes and delicious experiences that you are proud of from this year?

  • What are the losses, or perceived failures, the hard moments from this year?

  • What surprised you most this year?

  • Take a look over your reflections, are there any emerging themes or core values that you can learn from?

  • Who needs to be acknowledged in my life? Is there anyone I should express gratitude to for what they have done for me over the past 12 months?

  • What worked this year?

  • What was the biggest/best lesson I learned?

Step 5. Set another time and look ahead to 2023. After reflecting on 2022, use that to inform your answers to the questions below…

  • Imagine.. it’s this date 2023, what am I proud of accomplishing for this year?

  • What do I want to prioritize in 2023 and HOW will I do that?

  • What is something I wish I had done in 2022 that I will commit to completing next year?

  • What is something I want to learn more about in 2023?

  • Who do I want to spend more time with in 2023?

  • Set a goal/focus/intention for each quarter (Jan - Mar, April - June, July - Sept, Oct - Dec)

Step 6. Close the time together by sharing and reflecting on

  • One thing you are proud of yourself for in 2022 (Brag on yourself, we don’t do this enough!)

  • One thing you are grateful for in this very moment.

  • How you will hold yourself accountable to your 2023 commitments

Step 7. Celebrate this work! Go for a nice walk, enjoy a delicious meal or have a dance party. You are setting yourself up for an intentional, fun and powerful 2023!
