Setting Intentions & Goal Setting

Setting Intentions & Goal Setting

Start the year off with a bang by getting clear on how you want to feel this year. What do you want more of in your life? The start of the year can be great for a reset, but I like to continually check in throughout the year. I use the moon cycles as a way to make sure that every month I’m reassessing what’s working and what’s not. On the new moon, I like to write down a list: what do I want to accept? What do I want to release? On the full moon I reflect - have those things come to fruition? And if not, what can I adjust to get there? For me, I want to experience more joy, creativity, and freedom. I set my goals around these feelings.

How can I bring more joy, creativity, and freedom into my life long term?

  • I will focus more on new projects in work. Such as the new Spatial Wellness offering we are working on kickstarting now!

  • I will explore new vendors for sustainable storage solutions. I’m hoping to find some local/small businesses whose product we can use for client projects!

  • I will focus on finishing renovations for Little Bear Lodge! Our new cabin in Lake Arrowhead (check out our IG for renovation updates). Also, I’m remodeling our new home in Woodland Hills! I love the creativity that comes from the design process, and am so delighted to be working with Robin of Olazko Interiors on this project!

  • I would also like to take pottery classes and dance lessons!

  • In our marriage, we set a goal of having at least one date night a month where we can do something adventurous or new - being silly together as a couple always brings me joy.

When I reset each month - I usually breakdown my wellbeing into these categories: Health, Career, Love Life, & Friendships. Ask yourself these questions to get to the root of how I’m feeling.

Career:

  • What little victories can you celebrate?

  • What are you excited about moving forward in your career?

  • What changes would you like to see in your career in both the near and distant future?

  • Are there new skills you have interest in learning?

Love Life:

If you have a partner:

  • Does your partnership make you happy?

  • What do you do to make each other happy and what can you do to make each other happy?

  • What things can you do to make your partnership feel fresh and exciting?

  • In what ways do you prioritize yourself and in what ways do you prioritize your partner? Is it a healthy balance?

If you don’t have a partner:

  • What kind of connection are you looking for?

  • What qualities are you looking for in a partner? (be specific)

  • Are you holding onto anything from the past that you would like to release?

  • Are there any patterns you would like to break from past connections?

Friends:

  • Are all of your friendships adding value to your life?

  • How can your friends support you in becoming the person you want to be?

  • What fun activities would you like to do with your friends?

  • Have you checked in with them lately?

  • Do you feel that you can be vulnerable with your friends? Why or why not?

Health:

  • Do you feel good in your body?

  • When you have an ailment, do you pay attention to it?

  • Have you been keeping up on your doctors appointments?

  • What physical activities make you feel the best upon completion?

  • Are you craving anything? Are you listening to your body?

  • If you have any recurring health issues, are you sticking with your plan to start feeling good? Are you seeing progress?

Also, I love Jaimi Brooks’ (Marriage and Family Therapist) Values Decks. It’s a great resource for helping people to get very clear on their values and what they should be focusing on. From her website:

“The Values Deck is a tool for self-reflection, giving you an opportunity to focus on what is truly important to you and relieve you of the burden of focusing on the things that are not.

Use it alone as a self-study exercise or with others as an engaging activity of connection. It is designed to provoke thought, start discussion, inspire insight, and help you honor yourself and others.”

Use it to spark conversation with your loved ones or to really align with yourself and what you want and need.
