The Best of Series | Kitchen Round-Up

We are wrapping up our Best of Series for the kitchen, and this time we are giving you items that we think are non-negotiable in creating a decluttered, sustainable environment that also helps to make your life easy. That’s what we are here for!

The Best of the Best for Your Kitchen

A few of these choices are taken from the past kitchen blogs because they are the best of the best! Let us know in the comments if you’ve gotten anything from a past blog and how it is working out for you!

Hyacinth Bins

There’s a reason they are in every pantry. They work perfectly every time! Look great whether you like modern farmhouse, mid century glam, minimal, they just work! They also hide everything inside, so that if everything doesn’t match or are different sizes it doesn’t really matter. Perfect for separating your items into categories!

Reusable “Ziplocs”

These Stasher bags are 100% silicone, adorable, keep your food fresh and are way better for the environment than traditional baggies. Bonus, they stack easily so keeping them tidy in a drawer, cabinet or basket is a breeze. They can easily be washed and we love that you can purchase bag options that stand up or lay flat. The stand up options allow you to store liquid or other leftovers that you typically would put in a storage container. They also can be used to marinate your food, sous vide, or even be used for other instances around your home where you would have typically grabbed a plastic bag - like a change of clothes in your diaper bag or for travel. We LOVE a product with a dual purpose.

Acrylic Bins

These come in every shape and size imaginable! Perfect in the fridge, in the pantry, in a cabinet to store items like Tupperware lids. Endlessly useful, easy to clean.

From the moment we saw these divided fridge drawers we fell in love. These could work for basically anything in your refrigerator. From meat to produce. We personally think they would be super helpful for those of you that go to the farmers market or buy a lot of veggies! Keep everything visible so nothing goes bad before you are able to use it! If you have a vertical freezer, these would also be a great way to easily find items that are usually shoved to the back. Basically, we couldn’t love them more!

These divided freezer bins are also great and can really be used anywhere in your home. We have them in our pantry! The dividers allow you to separate different food types while keeping organization and allowing you to view the items in your freezer. The handles also allow you to easily remove the entire bin from your freezer to wipe it down or organize. This collection was actually just launched by the women over at The Home Edit with Container Store - we love supporting other women in our industry and think they are amazing! Because of the success of their launch, these occasionally are backordered, but they are in stock right now so stock up while they’re available!

Turntables aka Lazy Susan’s

If you have an odd sized pantry, a pantry with a huge corner, a ton of sauces or oils&vinegars, this is a HUGE hack. Turntables will save you so much time searching in your cabinets and make it so easy to see everything.

The huge bamboo turntable work great in the corner of a large pantry.  The acrylic divided turntables work great to store snacks like bars, pouches etc., and the medium sized turn tables can store anything from condiments, to supplements!

Bamboo Inserts

Keep those cooking utensils and silverware organized with bamboo drawer inserts! It helps so much and they are super easy to clean. Set your silverware out and dump it into the sink and wipe with a damp cloth.

If you live in an older, smaller place Maddy found this one actually fits in her 1970’s apartment kitchen.

Under-sink Bins

These bins work great under your kitchen sink! Keep your cleaning stuff organized, that way at a glance you can scope if you need more dishwasher pods, steel wool, trash bags! We also love that you can customize the dividers (take them out, put them in etc).

Sustainable Swaps

We will try to suggest a few sustainable swaps on our Best Of posts going forwards! Here are a few great options for your kitchen!

Bamboo or wood cutting board

Instead of using a plastic cutting board, which can harbor bacteria and lead to more plastic in landfills, once you are ready to dispose of them, try investing in a bamboo or wood cutting board as an alternative. Bamboo is antibacterial, sustainable and compostable, and wood cutting boards can be sanded every so often to make them like new again!

Compost Bin

Make composting less trashy by adding this chic bin to your kitchen counter staples. Composting is a great way to reduce your impact on landfills. Our fave hack to avoid smelly kitchens and any sort of critters being attracted (huge no thanks from us on ants and all their friends) is putting your compost bin in the freezer! Nothing will smell, and this bin is small enough that there’s still space for all the ice cream, and frozen Trader Joe’s treats too!

We recommend keeping your bin within eyesight to easily remember to compost your food scraps, instead of tossing them in the trash. Most municipalities offer composting options, but if you aren’t sure, check out your local government website or Earth911 https://earth911.com/home-garden/cheat-sheet-composting/ for more information about how to integrate composting into your lifestyle.

Here are two more styles that we really like! This “scrap collector” specifically for the freezer and this 0.75 of a gallon little white guy!

Thanks for stopping by and we hope you loved the kitchen series. Any requests on which room you want us to do next? Comment below!
