A Few of Our Favorite Things

A Few of Our Favorite Things

To have the optimally organized home or office of your dreams, you might need to acquire some pieces to better contain and organize what you have. Big, deep drawers or closets are where you’ll find most clutter and with just a few modifications you will be blown away by the transformation. Check out our most used organizing products we recommend you order right now.

Shelves

Call your handyman - and we have a great one if you need one - and add in some shelves. This can have a huge impact, especially if you need storage for home items or linens. If you don’t want to hire a handyman to put in permanent shelves a temporary option would be to purchase something like this bookcase from Target for its shelves, or install your own floating shelves. Look at how much storage is possible in this laundry room with those shelves versus keeping it as an empty wall!

Storage Bins

Those shelves are just the start, because once those are in you’ll want to use bins to further sort and contain your items. This makes it easy to know what you have and where to put it back when you’re done. We use a wide variety of bins based on budget, material preferences and what we’ll be putting in them. These targets bins are great for smaller items or these for linens or bigger toys. Check out this kids room dream closet below! Bins make all the difference here, it’s also functionally easier to pull down a basket from up high.

Drawer Dividers

Whether this is in the kitchen, office, bedroom or a closet drawer this product makes it much quicker to find what you’re looking for. They will keep water bottles from rolling everywhere, pens and junk getting mixed in together.. Here’s another, more cost friendly option with 4 in a pack you can have to organize by the weekend. You can also try something like these drawer organizers like you see below to get even more detailed in your organization.

Lazy Susans

Are you struggling with how to easily access your different cooking oils? We especially recommend the one linked above because the sides come up high enough that your precious items won’t fall off while spinning around. Plus, the clear material allows you to see everything that is actually in there. We also love these for art supplies, or hair care products and lotions. It’s another great utility player organizing product.

Label Maker

Let me paint a picture for you. You set aside 4-6 hours to organize the kitchen pantry. You declutter expired items or put a pile of things to donate aside that haven’t been touched and can be given to someone who will use it! Then, you put everything into a specific place that makes sense. However, the kids get home or your roommate has a friend over and they don’t understand your system. They get done making some food, put everything back where THEY think makes sense… and just like that.. the pantry is back to how you first found it.
Don’t let that be your story! The final step of organizing is labeling things. This way the kids or roommates or your partner can clearly see where they need to put the breakfast items back, or the baking ingredients, etc..
We use quite the heavy duty label maker, but I found the one linked above online and love the price for you to use at home. Download the app onto your phone and you just create the labels from the app to print on your new label maker.

If you’d like to avoid purchasing anything, we are a big fan of Buy Nothing Groups which you can join on Facebook or through their website. People post up items that they no longer need as a gift for someone who may!
