4 Tips for an Organized Halloween
4 Tips for an Organized Halloween
Halloween is right around the corner - and like most holidays it’s one that can bring clutter and junk into the home. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Try just one of these tips to minimize clutter and trash in your home this Halloween.
1. Costume swaps. Text the group chat, post in your facebook groups and together exchange costumes that can still be used. One of the most common items we are decluttering are previous years Halloween' costumes that simply don’t fit anymore.
2. Re-usable Halloween decorations. Sorry to burst this nostalgia bubble but carving pumpkins is a huge creator of waste (about 1 billion pounds of pumpkins left to waste in the US alone). Maybe this activity is something your family does once, and annually you choose to use a reusable pumpkin decoration to bring the spirit of the holiday in. Check these spooky pumpkins on Etsy.
3. Be that friend. In many cases, there will already be plenty of candy at any Halloween gathering you attend. To reduce the amount of plastic and trash created from candy wrappers, be the friend who brings a homemade candy or dessert. While you alone can’t eliminate the use of plastics, what you do can have an impact. A quick google search had my mouth watering over these homemade candy recipes.
4. About those re-usable Halloween decorations... Make sure you have a bin to store them in, and a place to put that bin you will be able to get to next year. As you’re taking stock of your Halloween goodies, take note of the size of bin you will need to store it in. We almost always reach for a clear bin, like these from the Container Store, that will allow you to see what is inside as it increases the chances you will use it again.
